Stunning Art Deco bronze bust of an African, signed at the back, on the side, Johannes Dommisse (Belgian sculptor 1878-1955). Very beautiful details of the face, the eyes are hollow. Nice veined black marble base.
Johannes Dommisse was born in Delft but worked for many years in Brussels. He also worked on the Berlage Bridge in Amsterdam and also designed a pediment for the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Dommisse's work can be found in various museums, including the Gemeentemuseum Arnhem, the Centraal Museum Utrecht...
