An incredible illustration board painted by Ron Embleton (1930-1988) for a comic adaptation of 'The Ring of Nibelungs' (Der Ring des Nibelungen)-a cycle of four epic music dramas composed by Wagner. The works are based on characters from Norse sagas and the Nibelungenlied.

In this fantastically painted page, Fafner The Frost King has changed himself into a dragon in order to protect the Rhine Gold. A powerful blacksmith dwarf called Mime forges a sword for Siegfried who has reached manhood, and is finally able to slay the dragon.

Each of these beautifully painted scenes show off Ron Embleton's incredible talent for figure painting, detail, layout and his ability to create drama. The gouache background washes are sublime in contrast to his minute brush work.

Ron Embleton (elder brother of Gerry Embleton) was a stoic contributor to British comics- He drew Strongbow the Mighty, Wulf the Briton, Wrath of the Gods, Tales of the Trigan Empire, Johnny Frog in Eagle, Stingray (TV Century 21) and Wicked Wanda (Penthouse) amongst others.
