A beautiful illustration board painted by Ron Embleton (1930-1988) for a comic adaptation of 'The Ring of Nibelungs' (Der Ring des Nibelungen)-a cycle of four epic music dramas composed by Wagner. The works are based on characters from Norse sagas and the Nibelungenlied.

In this episode, Siegfried approaches the Castle of King Gunther, where the King’s sister Gudrun falls in love with him... Siegfried is already promised to another, but the King’s evil brother Hagen offers to make a love potion which will make Siegfried fall for her...

Each of these beautifully painted scenes show off Ron Embleton's talent for figure painting, detail, layout and his ability to create drama. The gouache background washes are sublime in contrast to his minute brush work.

Ron Embleton was a stoic contributor to British comics- He drew Strongbow the Mighty, Wulf the Briton, Wrath of the Gods, Tales of the Trigan Empire, Johnny Frog in Eagle, Stingray (TV Century 21) and Wicked Wanda (Penthouse) amongst others. The Princess at this feast certainly has something of the Wicked Wanda about her...
