Kokeshi door Kazuo Takamizawa - Hout - Japan - Shōwa periode (1926-1989)

Kazuo Takamizawa 1948 opened his studio considered the center of modern Creative Kokeshi doll making. This colourful Kokeshi doll is called "Yosooi" or "Dressing up". With their serene expressions and balanced proportions, Kokeshi embody a sense of harmony and simplicity. Collected worldwide, Kokeshi dolls are admired for their artisanal quality. Kokeshi dolls are traditionally hand-turned, painted and then sealed with a layer of wax so the design won’t fade over time. They are made as long-lasting toys passed down through generations for children to play with. The tradition of these wooden folk art pieces traces its roots back as far as the Edo period (1603-1868 CE). Representing traditional Japanese wood craftmanship and regional styles, Kokeshi developed into something more than a simple toy, and are now considered a lucky charm that guards the happiness of children! Part of a private collection from a Japanese collector.
