小山榮達 Koyama Eitatsu (1880-1945) Born in Tokyo in 1881. His first name was Seiji. Studied Western-style painting under Honda Kin-kichiro, Japanese-style painting under Suzuki Eikyo and history painting under Kobori Tomoto. Exhibited at the Teiten and Shinbunten and received an exemption of examination. He was active in the government exhibitions, painting his best historical paintings and samurai pictures. with signature 'Eitatsu e' 榮達 繪 and seal 'Eitatsu' 栄達 A powerful and finely detailed painting of a mounted samurai by Koyama Eitatsu, an accomplished early 20th-century Nihonga artist.
