Bronzen beeld van Kannon Bosatsu 観音菩薩 - Gepatineerd brons - Hozan 芳山 studio - Japan - Meiji periode (1868-1912)

A finely cast bronze figure of Kannon Bosatsu 観音菩薩 (Bodhisattva of Compassion), known in Sanskrit as Avalokiteśvara, by the Hozan 芳山 studio. The bodhisattva is depicted standing gracefully atop a rocky base, dressed in flowing robes loosely draped and open at the chest to reveal elaborate beaded jewellery. She holds a scroll in her right hand, while her left arm rests gently at her side. The serene face with almond-shaped eyes is centred by an urna (sacred mark), the hair neatly combed beneath a tall crown featuring a small seated image of Amida Buddha, partly covered by a cowl. The base is impressed twice with the mark Hozan芳山. Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868–1912) Dimensions: Height 60 cm, Width 20.5 cm, Depth 23 cm. Weight: 6.8 kg In an excellent condition with minor wear consistent with age. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference. The Hozan studio, located in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, was renowned for its high-quality bronze works cast by the lost-wax method (rôgata chûzô 蝋型鋳造). The workshop produced okimono 置物, flower vases, kôro 香炉 (incense burners) for tea ceremony, and other refined metal artworks, and also created molds for leading metal artists of the period. Three generations of masters carried on the name Hozan, with the third generation passing away in 2011. When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity. Please note: Due to the holidays, shipping and handling times may be longer. Thank you for your understanding.
