In 2009, Montegrappa returned to the family where it belongs: the Aquila family, the leading producers of exquisitely Italian writing instruments. The year 2015 marks a special anniversary for this dynasty of pen makers. Leopoldo Tullio Aquila Grandfather of Giuseppe Aquila, Montegrappa’s CEO, and father of Gianfranco Aquila, Chairman, Leopoldo Tullio Aquila began his journey by producing ink at the age of 16. Working with a friend and collaborator in the basement of his home, he spent countless hours experimenting with chemicals until he finally created his own ink. From that initial success, he quickly progressed to creating his own pen, which he named the "Super Penna Aquila." It was a short and remarkably successful leap. His exceptional achievement was without a doubt the result of his ingenious determination, unwavering professionalism, and the quiet authority imparted by his gentle strength of character. He was, above all, a man completely devoted to creating the finest pens possible. The Leopoldo Tullio Aquila Pen. Montegrappa honors the spirit of Leopoldo Tullio Aquila, beloved patriarch of the Aquila family, with a special pen that bears his name. It was essential that the pen reflect his personality through a design inspired by him. Strong lines, sober yet elegant colors, and the intrinsic quality of the materials all align perfectly with the character and demeanor of Leopoldo Tullio Aquila. This truly special fountain pen is crafted in black "charcoal" pearlescent celluloid, with a cap made entirely of sterling silver, enriched with an engraving in Liberty style. The top of the cap is octagonal, recalling Montegrappa’s iconic geometric shape. It also bears the “Montegrappa 1912” emblem, commemorating the founding year of the company. The pen is completed with an 18k gold nib, engraved with Montegrappa’s signature filigree pattern.
