Norfolk Long Distance Sculling Championship: The second-ever Norfolk Long Distance Sculling Championship, a race covering the course from Surlingham Ferry to Whitlingham, was won in 1949 by George Cooper's father. This prestigious race, created in 1948, was a major event for local and visiting scullers.
