William Klein is bekend sinds zijn eerste boek ('Life is good & good for you in New York'), dat uitkwam in 1956 (Andrew Roth, The Book of 101 Books, pagina 140-143; The Open Book, Hasselblad Center, pagina 204/205; 802 boeken uit de M.+M. Auer-collectie, pagina 436).

William Klein was fotograaf, schilder en filmmaakster. Hij heeft verschillende fotoboeken gemaakt en heeft tentoonstellingen gehad in Londen, Parijs en New York. Zijn werk is in eigendom van het Museum of Modern Art in New York, het Centre Pompidou in Parijs en het Victoria and Albert Museum in Londen.

'Working at the nexus of painting and photography, William Klein conceived this original series when he was in the process of reviewing other photographers’ contact sheets for a film he was making. Referencing the age of film photography, when photographers selected images by circling individual negatives on a contact sheet with brightly colored grease pencils, Klein’s works invent a new kind of art object that organically marries painting and photography. The resulting pieces are enormous mural-sized works in which bold, kinetic color frames and reframes enlarged black-and-white images from throughout his career. Klein’s iconic fashion and street photography, always gritty and bold, is given a new immediacy and relevance in this second life. In his foreword to this edition, Klein describes these works as “all brush strokes and jubilation. The jubilation of painting recall(s) the celebration of taking the photo.'

'TWilliam Klein was an American-born French photographer and filmmaker noted for his ironic approach to both media and his extensive use of unusual photographic techniques in the context of photojournalism and fashion photography. He was ranked 25th on Professional Photographer's list of 100 most influential photographers.
Klein trained as a painter, studying under Fernand Léger, and found early success with exhibitions of his work. He soon moved on to photography and achieved widespread fame as a fashion photographer for Vogue and for his photo essays on various cities. He directed feature-length fiction films, numerous short and feature-length documentaries and produced over 250 television commercials.
He was awarded the Prix Nadar in 1957, the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship (HonFRPS) in 1999, and the Outstanding Contribution to Photography Award at the Sony World Photography Awards in 2011.
A retrospective exhibition of his work, William Klein: YES: Photographs, Paintings, Films, 1948–2013, was shown at the International Center of Photography in New York until September 15, 2022.'
