DESCRIPTION :
The museum director and art historian Dr. Friedhelm Häring describes the pictorial universe of Ralf Altrieth as follows:
"There is a lot of poetry in this painting, as in all the works of this artist. They are populated with narrative codes and fantastic tales. In this sense, the painterly poems of Ralf Altrieth are a pure childlike song... But the most astonishing thing that manifests in these canvases is a communicative tenderness for the states of mind of the human being."
In his paintings, Ralf Altrieth lets the forms emerge and transform as the gesture flows, in a free and spontaneous movement. The figures often appear fleetingly, as if hesitating between being and disappearing.
The image is formed by superposition, the elements seem to float, respond to each other, interlace, creating a living and open visual space.
The title is usually added afterwards. It is meant to suggest a clue, a narrative dimension, poetic or sometimes simply humorous, never locking the image into a single interpretation.
An expressive work that immediately catches the eye and gradually reveals all its richness.
