Paul Cheng werd geboren en groeide op in Guangzhou, China en studeerde aan het Guangzhou Fine Art College in China, een van de meest prestigieuze kunstscholen in China. Hij behaalde zijn BFA-diploma aan en doceerde aan dezelfde school. Zijn schilderijen zijn tentoongesteld op verschillende kunstrends in China, Australië en de Verenigde Staten en hij is uitgegroeid tot een bekroonde kunstenaar. Paul Cheng werd in april 2013 genoemd in Southwest Art Magazine. Hij werkte voor enkele grote entertainmentbedrijven als Sr. visual development artist, art director en Sr. illustrator van gamingbedrijven in Australië en de Verenigde Staten. Deze projecten waaraan hij heeft gewerkt zijn of genomineerd voor Oscar Beste Animatiebegene Boeker (Best Animated Feature Film) of wonnen Oscar Outstanding Achievement in Character Design in an Animated Feature Production en een Emmy-prijs.
