Standing at an impressive 30.5cm, the volume is bound in opulent full black leather with intricate gilt-tooled decoration to the boards and a deeply recessed, Five-banded spine. The "Comprehensive" edition was designed to be the ultimate study tool, and this copy remains a testament to the reverence Victorian households held for the Word.
Archive Highlight:
Tucked within the pages is an original, handwritten letter from Mr Hughes to Alfred and Emmie and dated April 2nd 1864, clearly a note accompanying this wedding gift. Such ephemera provides a rare, tangible link to the bible's original owners, making this not just a book, but a piece of family history.
Condition:
The leather is generally clean with some marks and rubbing and with a rich lustre. The gilt edges remain bright, and the internal pages are remarkably clean with crisp typography and only minor foxing. The binding is firm and square—perfect for display or genealogical research.
The Bible measures 30.5 x 24 x 9cm (approximately 12" x 9.5" x 3.5") and weighs 5.06kg (approximately 11.16lb).
