A large Burmese parabaik manuscript - Myanmar

An original Burmese "parabaik" folding manuscript, ca. 1900, featuring numerous traditional drawings and diagrams executed in white pigment on black-coated paper.

The manuscript contains a text written in Burmese script, incorporating numerous Pali passages including Mahāsutasoma Jātaka and Aṅgulimāla, a protective chant traditionally connected with safe childbirth. The manuscript also includes a number of drawings and various tables.

When fully unfolded, the manuscript measures approximately 345 cm in length and 42 cm in width, making it an impressive example of a traditional Burmese folding manuscript.
