Al meer dan twintig jaar schildert Francien Krieg het menselijk lichaam als een plek waar het leven zijn sporen achterlaat. In de serie *Precious Bodies* richt zij zich op vrouwen wier lichamen niet langer voldoen aan de dominante idealen van jeugd, perfectie en beheersing.
Rimpels, huidplooien, littekens en kwetsbaarheid worden niet verborgen, maar juist zichtbaar gemaakt. Het lichaam verschijnt niet als iets dat verbeterd of gecorrigeerd moet worden, maar als een drager van tijd. De huid wordt een archief van ervaringen, verlies, veerkracht en verandering.
De vrouwen in deze schilderijen zijn niet geïdealiseerd, maar ook niet neergezet als slachtoffers. Ze bevinden zich in het gebied tussen kracht en kwetsbaarheid, tussen aanwezigheid en vergankelijkheid.
