Complete copy of the second volume of the celebrated Walchersche Arkadia by Mattheus Gargon, published in Leiden by Samuel Luchtmans in 1717.
This important work on the history, topography and culture of the island of Walcheren (Zeeland, The Netherlands) contains extensive descriptions of towns, monuments, noble families, customs, churches, dikes, antiquities and local history.
The volume is richly illustrated with:
Engraved frontispiece.
Red and black printed title page.
Numerous engraved plates, including portraits and views.

Condition
Good overall condition for a book printed in 1717. Bound in a later half-leather binding with marbled boards. The binding is firm and the text block is complete. Pages are generally clean with normal age-related browning and occasional light foxing. Folding plates are complete. Minor wear and small signs of use consistent with age.
A highly desirable work for collectors of Dutch history, Zeeland topography and early 18th-century illustrated books.
