I stand on what remains of him, holding the folded dark like a closed wing. My hair has gone the colour of forgetting, my coat the colour of deep water at dusk. The lid is open and the stillness inside is familiar, almost tender. My shadow spills forward, longer than I am, reaching toward something I cannot name. I hold the umbrella though there is no rain coming.
