Il bronzo è trattato con una ricca patina blu scura con riflessi blu-verdi (ossidazione indotta chimicamente). La colorazione non è uniforme: le parti concave e le fessure mantengono tonalità più scure e bluastre, mentre le superfici esposte e levigate del viso lasciano intravedere caldi bagliori metallici e sfumature verdastre, enfatizzando il gioco di luci e ombre.
La figura del Centurione rappresenta l'eroe classico decaduto. Attraverso le ferite, le bende e le mutilazioni del bronzo, Mitoraj non descrive una distruzione, ma la vulnerabilità e la fragilità dell'essere umano, mettendo in discussione l'idea di perfezione e immortalità associata all'arte classica.

The bronze is treated with a rich dark blue patina with blue-green reflections (chemically induced oxidation). The coloration is uneven: the concave parts and slits retain darker, bluish hues, while the exposed, smooth surfaces of the face reveal warm metallic glows and greenish hues, emphasizing the play of light and shadow.
The figure of the Centurion represents the fallen classical hero. Through the wounds, bandages, and mutilations of bronze, Mitoraj describes not a destruction, but the vulnerability and fragility of human beings, questioning the idea of perfection and immortality associated with classical art.
