Artsome – Pair of vintage English-style club armchairs – Distressed brown leather, woven fabric, wood and metal – circa 2000
Description:
A matching pair of vintage English-style club armchairs by Artsome, dating from the late 20th or early 21st century, circa 2000.
The armchairs are upholstered in warm cognac-brown leather with a distinctive distressed finish and natural patina. They feature rounded arms, removable seat cushions, decorative metal nailhead trim and contrasting coarse woven fabric panels on the outer sides and backs.
The chairs stand on dark-stained wooden legs. The turned front legs are fitted with metal castors, while the rear legs have a slightly curved form. The original Artsome manufacturer’s label is present.
Condition:
The armchairs are in fair vintage condition with pronounced signs of age and use.
The leather shows numerous scratches, scuffs, abrasions, craquelure, creases, fading and colour variations, particularly on the seat cushions, armrests, front edges and backrests. The seat cushions show wear and some compression, while the leather piping and edges are rubbed.
The leather originally had an intentionally distressed finish; however, the chairs also have genuine wear resulting from regular use.
The coarse woven fabric panels on the backs and outer sides of both armchairs are torn and damaged. Along the upper rear edges, several sections of the fabric are worn away, exposing the green underlying material. One of the side panels also has several visible vertical tears. The woven fabric additionally shows staining, discolouration, rubbing and general wear. Repair or replacement of the damaged textile panels is recommended.
The wooden legs, decorative nailheads and metal castors show scratches, tarnishing and age-related patina.
