The Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Strength Sail No. 2 is a rum blend that resembles a sea voyage in a glass. It combines distillates from five countries of origin: Barbados: Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery (34%) Trinidad: Trinidad Distillers Ltd. (35%) Guyana: Diamond Distillery (20%) Mauritius: Saint Aubin (6%, sugar cane juice content) Jamaica: Long Pond & Clarendon Distilleries (5%) It is based on molasses and a small amount of fresh sugar cane juice from Mauritius. Fermentation ranges from two days to three weeks before distillation in both column stills and pot stills. The initial aging takes place in the countries of origin – several years in ex-bourbon barrels. The rum is then transported to southwest France, where Maison Ferrand finishes it in used oak barrels and open wooden vats with intensive oxygenation. The humid climate of the Cognac region ensures a gentle yet complex development of the aroma. Bottled at 55.7% ABV, with a natural color and without excessive sweetening (dosage 4.8 g/l) – in keeping with the historic "Navy Proof." The nose opens with notes of dried fruit, candied orange peel, dark chocolate, and vanilla, followed by ripe plum and warm caramel. On the palate, bold accents of smoked molasses and caramel emerge, accompanied by ripe fruit notes and a smooth, full texture. The finish is long, round, and pleasantly sweet, with a gentle warmth and hints of caramel, fruit, and subtle smoke.
