High quality Japanese traditional hand carved wooden Noh mask - Fushikizō節木増, finely carved with noble and elegant expression, artist name 游山 was signed on the backside. Fushikizō is a female figure, and when this mask was made, it happened that a knotty cypress was used, which caused resin to seep out from the base of the left side of the nose, leaving a pale blue stain. Normally, this would be repainted, but because the finish of the mask was so excellent, it was left as it was, and this eventually led to the creation of the Fushikizō mask.
