Zeer mooi schilderij 'Waterval en zoetvis', ondertekend - inclusief geïnscripteerde tomobako. - Zijde - Koizumi Ayaru (1766-1854) - Japan - Late Edo periode
Koizumi Ayaru (1766-1854), a painter of the late Edo period who served the 11th lord of the Kurobane domain, Ozeki Masunari. He was born in Kimura family but became an adopted son of Koizumu family. After studying under Shimazaki Unpo, he studied under Maruyama Okyo, but also he was strongly influenced by Kumashiro Yuhi. Ayaru was interested in Western painting too and established his own style by harmonizing various school’s style. He left behind excellent works with a style that made full use of the mokkotsu method, realistic painting, and Western perspective. His pictures of ayu (sweetfish) are especially popular.
His works could be found in numerous museums like Minneapolis Institute of Art, Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Art, National Museum of Asian Art Smithsonian, ...
