Representative specimen from Les Farges showing a first generation of dark brown-green pyromorphite crystals partially overgrown by sprays of lustrous yellow-orange secondary pyromorphite. The matrix consists of white baryte with iron oxide staining.
Les Farges mine ranks among the most important modern localities for pyromorphite. During its brief but prolific period of production from 1971 to 1984, the mine yielded an exceptional diversity of crystal habits and color varieties, establishing it as a classic locality for the species.
Ex coll. Rollet family (Lyon).
The Rollet family owned several mines in Madagascar since 1920, prospecting for new deposits, mining and exporting minerals for industrial uses (mainly phlogopite) but also gemstone roughs and collectable specimens. Founder Marc Rollet was a very early mineral dealer in France. The collection features many specimens of historical and systematic interest from Madagascar, as well as a variety of French and international classics from the last century.
