Yoshino-yama Setsu-chū no Ba (吉野山雪中之場) Diptych Ukiyo-e - Utagawa Kunisada III (三代歌川国貞,1786—1865) - Japan - Meiji-periode (Zonder minimumprijs)

Work Title: Yoshino-yama Setsu-chū no Ba (吉野山雪中之場) Diptych Ukiyo-e Artist: Utagawa Kunisada III (三代歌川国貞,1786—1865) Medium: Woodblock print Artist’s signature/seal on the print Sheet Dimensions: 37 × 49 cm (overall width of two panels) (14.6 × 19.3 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) This striking warrior diptych ukiyo-e print (originally a triptych) is a representative warrior-themed work by Utagawa Kunisada III (三代歌川国贞)—an immensely influential ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period and a core figure of the Utagawa school. Classified as musha-e (武者绘), a popular genre in the Edo period, it draws inspiration from classic samurai tales of Japan’s Sengoku and Heian periods. Left panel: Depicts a samurai clad in simple armor with an outer black-patterned robe, set against a red gate and a floral-patterned screen; the inscription “Sakagawa Chikake” (坂川中竹)—presumed to be the samurai’s name—appears at the top. Right panel: Shows a fully armored samurai wearing red-and-green hued armor and an ornately decorated helmet, holding a long sword in a poised, ready-to-strike stance. This diptych woodblock print is an early reprint from Meiji 24 (1891), over a century old. Due to age, the washi paper shows natural signs of aging—oxidative yellowing, mold spots, creases, and minor tears—but remains in overall good condition. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
