Classified as musha-e (武者绘), a popular genre in the Edo period, it draws inspiration from classic samurai tales of Japan’s Sengoku and Heian periods. Left panel: Depicts a samurai clad in simple armor with an outer black-patterned robe, set against a red gate and a floral-patterned screen; the inscription “Sakagawa Chikake” (坂川中竹)—presumed to be the samurai’s name—appears at the top.
