Tamenaga Shunsui (1790–1843) - Iroha Bunko 11–12, Two-Volume Set — , Meiji , Illustrated Japanese Stitch-Bound Books - 1883

Reprinted in Meiji 16 (1883): Volumes 11 and 12 as a paired set. Corresponds to the latter half of Part 4 by the first-generation Tamenaga Shunsui. Bag-bound book with woodblock illustrations. Approx. 17.5×11.5cm per volume. Volume 11: 53 pages; Volume 12: 61 pages. The woodblock illustrations feature a quiet, restrained style reminiscent of Kyoto and Osaka yomihon (readers), depicting interiors and furnishings with fine, uniform lines. Among the 18 parts and 54 volumes of the Iroha Bunko series, this volume avoids the dramatic scenes of Chushingura, instead collecting episodes that explore human emotions—such as the life of a ronin and parting from family. It depicts the everyday dramas emblematic of Shunsui's writing style. This set, reprinting medieval tales during the Meiji period, was treasured as a rarity at the time. It is highly valued for preserving its woodblock illustrations and for having both Volumes 11 and 12 complete. The publisher was Kato Sadaoki, a former samurai from Kyoto Prefecture. --- Condition --- Light soiling to the covers. Some wormholes within the text block, but readability is not affected. Minimal damage to the illustrated woodblock pages. Page counts: Vol. 11 = 53 pp., Vol. 12 = 61 pp. The presence of annotations, ownership stamps, repairs, or loosened stitching has not been verified. --- Keywords --- Iroha Bunko / Tamenaga Shunsui / Chushingura / Wahon / Woodblock / Meiji1883 --- Shipping --- The item will be shipped from Japan using a trackable service such as Japan Post or DHL. Delivery to your country generally takes about two weeks. Please note that import duties, taxes, and any related fees are not included in the item price or the shipping cost. These charges, if applicable, will be the responsibility of the buyer.
