This is a copper kozuka made in the Edo period.
A kozuka is a small knife handle that comes with a Japanese sword. It can also refer to the small knife itself, and is attached to the inner groove of the sheath of a katana sword.
To distinguish from the case where the entire small knife is called a kozuka, the handle part is sometimes called a "fukuro" and the blade part is sometimes called a "ho".
A rare kozuka with a moon and a crane carved in gold inlay on a copper base.
