Unknown (Japan) - Unknown craftsman - Wierookbrander - Tin-Bronze Tripod Kōro with Pierced Lid - tin-bronslegering - Tin-brons Drievoet Kōro
This is a Japanese tin-bronze incense burner (kōro) crafted in tripod form, featuring standing side handles and an ornate pierced lid topped with a Shishi (lion) finial. The body displays relief patterns inspired by archaic Chinese bronze ritual vessels (Ding-style), a traditional aesthetic often used in Japanese ceremonial metalwork.
The piece comes with its original wooden storage box (tomobako), which bears inscriptions identifying it as a tin-bronze incense burner and noting that it was presented by Tosui Hachiman Shrine (戸水八幡神社). This indicates that the burner was created as a dedication item or ceremonial gift, adding cultural and historical significance.
The burner shows typical signs of incense use inside, and the exterior surface displays a natural mid-century patina with minor age-related marks, as visible in the photos. Overall, it remains in good vintage condition and presents beautifully.
A fine example of mid-20th-century Japanese art metalwork, suitable for collectors of kōro, shrine items, and traditional bronzes.
