Rare 19th-Century Sir John Bennett Key-Wind Pocket Watch – Maker to the Royal Observatory ​An exceptional piece of British horological history: a 19th-century silver-cased pocket watch by the highly celebrated London maker, Sir John Bennett. ​This timepiece beautifully showcases the peak of Victorian watchmaking craftsmanship, featuring a beautifully preserved engine-turned case and a high-grade English lever movement. ​Key Features & Details ​Maker/Brand: Sir John Bennett, 65 Cheapside, London. Explicitly signed on the inner dust cover: "Maker to the Royal Observatory" featuring the royal crown insignia. ​Movement: Authentic frosted gilt English lever movement with a balance wheel, regulator index, and traditional multi-bridge layout. It is a classic key-wind and key-set mechanism. ​Dial: Pristine white enamel dial featuring classic Roman numeral hour markers, an outer minute track, and a dedicated sub-seconds register at the 6 o'clock position. ​Hands: Elegant dark spade-style hour and minute hands with a matching sub-seconds hand. ​Case: Solid silver case featuring a finely detailed engine-turned "guilloché" pattern on the back cover with a central vacant cartouche, perfect for personalization.
