Overview A 1972 Seiko Advan, the playful 1970s Seiko line with its distinctive sun-ray emblem on the dial. The deep blue dial carries a light-blue mosaic-style minute track, silver-framed applied bar indices with luminous lines (wider at 12 o'clock), silver luminous hands and a day-date window at 3 o'clock with a kanji (Japanese) day wheel as pictured (Sunday in red). Around the dial runs a 1–31 date scale marked DATE, and inside the crystal sits a rotating ring printed with the kanji days of the week, operated by the second crown at 2 o'clock. Signed SEIKO / 21J. with the Suwa symbol and the Advan emblem. Cushion-shaped stainless steel case with a round polished bezel and two crowns (2 and 4 o'clock), on a five-row steel block bracelet. Powered by the Seiko 7019 automatic movement with 21 jewels. The main points to note: a small dent/pit on the upper-left corner of the case (around 10–11 o'clock); numerous deep line scratches across the clasp cover; the luminous material on the hour hand has darkened and become patchy, with dark specks on the minute hand's luminous insert; and the bracelet links show yellowish-brown discolouration and dirt along their edges and between the links, with whitish-green deposits in some gaps and one small dark dent on a link. The polished bezel and case show many fine hairline scratches, and the case back shows swirl scratches all over. The crystal shows no notable scratches or chips. The dial is clean with crisp printing and no staining, and the index luminous material has aged to a cream colour. No clear rust found. A thorough cleaning is recommended.
