Joseph Drouhin is one of the most prestigious and historic names in Burgundy. Founded in 1880 in Beaune, the family house has built its reputation over generations through a consistent pursuit of elegance, precision and terroir expression. Today managed by the fourth generation, the estate spans around 100 hectares across Burgundy, including some of the most iconic vineyards such as Clos des Mouches, Corton-Charlemagne, Clos de Vougeot and Montrachet. The winemaking philosophy is based on respect for nature and minimal intervention, with careful vinifications using indigenous yeasts and precise ageing adapted to each terroir. The Beaune 1er Cru “Cras” 2017 comes from a hillside vineyard located northwest of Beaune, on clay-limestone soils with a strong mineral character. The name “Cras” refers to the stony nature of the terroir, which contributes to the wine’s structure and precision. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, the wine was vinified with total destemming, followed by fermentation and maceration in small open vats with gentle extraction. Ageing took place in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, for around 14 to 16 months. The wine shows a deep ruby color with aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla. On the palate, the tannins are fine and well-integrated, with a balanced and harmonious structure. Now approaching nearly 10 years of ageing, this 2017 vintage is in a very appealing stage of maturity. The wine offers immediate pleasure while maintaining depth and complexity.
