Japanische Steingut-Teeschale (Chawan) mit originaler Holzschatulle – natürliche Ascheglasur, am Rad - Steinzeug, Keramik - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)
This is a Japanese hand-thrown stoneware tea bowl (chawan), fired with a natural ash glaze that produces soft, earthy tones and subtle kiln variations. The interior shows clear spiral wheel marks, while the exterior displays an organic interplay of pale greenish ash glaze and warm reddish clay, characteristic of traditional Japanese aesthetics rooted in wabi-sabi.
The bowl is unsigned on the base, which is common for tea bowls of this type. It is accompanied by an original wooden storage box (tomobako) bearing ink inscription and seal on the lid, indicating identification and appreciation within the Japanese tea tradition. The box and bowl are considered together as a complete set.
The form is well balanced, with a gently flaring rim and a solid, carefully trimmed foot, making it suitable both for practical tea use and for display as a collectible object of Japanese ceramic culture.
Condition
Good vintage condition. Minor surface irregularities, glaze pooling, and firing marks are consistent with hand-crafted pottery and traditional firing methods. No cracks or repairs observed.
