This elegant Tebunko【手文庫】(traditional Japanese hand document box) is a fine example of Yamanaka lacquerware 【山中漆器】(Yamanaka-nuri) 【山中塗】from Ishikawa Prefecture, a region renowned for its long tradition of refined lacquer craftsmanship. “Handcrafted from start to finish by an artisan.” The exterior is exquisitely decorated with gold maki-e, depicting a serene Japanese garden scene featuring pine, willow, and cherry blossom trees, motifs symbolizing longevity, grace, and renewal in Japanese culture. The interior is finished entirely in luxurious gold nashiji, creating a rich and luminous appearance when the lid is opened. The work is signed by Mitsuyoshi (光吉) and dates to 1964, reflecting the refined aesthetic and high level of craftsmanship characteristic of the mid-Showa period.
