In Pure Land Buddhism, Amida is the principal deity who presides over the Western Paradise, welcoming devotees who recite “Namu Amida Butsu” to attain rebirth in the Pure Land, a realm of peace and limitless life. An inscription on the reverse of the figure states that it was consecrated on Mount Ichijusan by the 24th-generation officiant. It also includes the devotional phrase Namu Amida Butsu and records the name of the officiant who performed the consecration ritual. A red seal is present on the underside. The altar cabinet (zushi) features a black lacquer exterior and black lacquer floor, while the interior walls and doors are coated in lacquer mixed with gold powder. The Buddha stands on a lotus pedestal, with only the central support for the missing halo remaining. Age-related wear is present, including the loss of the left thumb, natural darkening of the wood, and the missing halo. The cabinet shows surface degradation with rough texture, lacquer losses, discolouration, rust on metal fittings, and accumulated grime. The door lock no longer reaches. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions of Cabinet: approx. H 17 cm W 7.9 cm D 6.8 cm Dimensions of Buddha: approx.
