Description
Japanese traditional Shidoro ware Teapot or Jar
with a grandma's name, made by Shirahata Hoetsu, with original box Tomowako
A beautifully crafted Japanese stoneware storage jar, featuring a rich, dark brown glaze that transitions smoothly into a cooler grey tone toward the lower body. A striking vertical kiln-born glaze flow (cascading "ochre trail") runs down one side, giving the piece a strong wabi-sabi character and emphasizing its handmade nature.
Around the shoulder are four hand-pulled lugs, traditionally used for tying cords—an aesthetic detail typical of classic storage jars. The wide mouth is finished with a warm, slightly mottled interior glaze.
Base Markings / Signature: Shirahata hoetsu
The jar comes housed in its original wooden storage box (tomobako). The lid is inscribed and stamped with seals, matching the style of the marks on the base of the vessel. The box shows natural wood grain and traditional calligraphy.
