Taisho period Japanese textile / kimono design reference book (Yuzen dyeing pattern catalogue), published in April 1920 (Taisho 9). This book was formerly owned and used by Musashiya Gofukuten, a traditional kimono and textile dealer in Matsunoyama, Higashi-Kubiki District, Echigo Province (present-day Niigata, Japan). The book contains a collection of printed design plates intended for high-grade kimono and obi production. The motifs include: – birds, swallows and cranes – goldfish and aquatic plants – waves and flowing water – seasonal flowers and foliage – landscapes and night scenes – stylised Art-Deco influenced compositions These patterns were used as trade reference designs for ordering custom Yuzen-dyed garments from Kyoto textile workshops.
