Chinese Nanking Crackle Glaze baluster vase Urn Nanjing, Qing Dynasty, circa 1900. Large Maillet Vase in porcelain stoneware and cracked cream glaze, mounted on a small heel, curved base, tapered belly, marked high shoulder and flared collar coupled with grips in the shape of plum branches beautifully decorated. The vase has two sides: On the one side you see the sculpture represents a figure Lohan (Buddhist figure) sitting on the back of a creature, which appears to be mythical asian lion. The ornament itself seems to be made of patinated metal, perhaps bronze or a similar alloy, and has elaborate sculpture details, especially at the level of the mane and mouth. On the other side you see 2 figures Buddhas, sometimes called friendship Buddhas, are often symbolise luck, prosperity and friendship. The details show the happy expressions of the Buddhas and a small object (perhaps a symbolic gold nugget) in their hands. The vase handles beautifully decorated with floral ornaments Small floral decorations or brown enamelled leaves are also visible near the top edge and on the other part of the vase . The style and subject are characteristic of ancient Chinese craftsmanship. Sealed mark incised under the base.
