The pair of hanging banners (dōban) are finished in gold leaf and fitted with yoraku ornaments. These banners originate from ancient ceremonial standards and are used in Buddhist settings as auspicious decorations honouring the Buddha’s teachings. The yoraku are cascading decorative elements composed of small metal plates and bell-shaped ornaments, symbolising the jewellery of the heavens. The bells are decorative only and do not produce sound. Some ornament elements have become detached over time, and the detached parts are included. The four hexagonal offering stands feature openwork carving and are used to elevate ritual implements or offerings. Their surfaces are finished in black lacquer with lacquer mixed with gold powder. The set also includes a matching small altar table, used for incense or offerings, finished in the same black lacquer with lacquer mixed with gold powder. There are age-related scuffs, minor lacquer losses, surface wear, dirt, and areas of discolouration consistent with use. Detached ornament parts are included. Please refer to the photos for details.
