Circa 1100-1200 ADThe Seljuks, Seljuks, Seljuks, or Seljuks were a Turkish Oghuz dynasty that ruled in present-day Iran and Iraq, as well as in Asia Minor between the mid-11th century and the end of the 13th century. They arrived in Anatolia from Central Asia at the end of the 10th century, wreaking havoc on the Byzantine and Arab provinces, ending the Abbasid Caliphate and considerably weakening the Byzantine Empire with their religious advance towards the west. In the 10th century, they converted to Islam and migrated southward led by a chieftain named Seljuq ibn Duqaq, from whom the dynasty derives its name.
