Schloss Lieser Riesling Feinherb 2007 – Rare Early Screw Cap Bottlings
2 Bottles – 0.75 L each – OHMS Professional Wine Cellar Discovery
A rare opportunity to acquire two full-size bottles of Schloss Lieser Riesling Feinherb from the excellent 2007 Mosel vintage. Although this estate-level wine was originally produced in significant quantities, surviving bottles in pristine condition are now hard to find, especially with the early screw cap closure that Schloss Lieser adopted on select bottlings in the 2000s.
Estate and Winemaker
Schloss Lieser is one of the Mosel’s benchmark Riesling producers. The historic estate was revitalized by Thomas Haag in the 1990s and purchased by him in 1997. Under his leadership, Schloss Lieser has earned top recognition and membership in the VDP, with holdings across several renowned Mosel sites including Niederberg Helden, Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Domprobst, and Piesporter Goldtröpfchen. The estate style is defined by precision, purity, and slate-driven minerality across dry, Feinherb, and classic Prädikat wines.
Vintage 2007 – Purity, lift, and long hang time
The 2007 vintage in the Mosel enjoyed one of the longest hang times in decades, with a clean, unhurried harvest and excellent ripeness. Wines show pure fruit, lively acidity, and crystalline slate character. Entry and estate wines from top producers are especially charming at maturity, combining freshness with gentle complexity.
Feinherb Style and Tasting Profile
Feinherb denotes a delicately off-dry style. Expect aromas of lime, green apple, and white peach, subtle floral tones, and a hint of honey and wet slate. The palate is sleek and refreshing, balancing gentle sweetness with brisk acidity and a clean, elegant finish typical of Schloss Lieser.
Rare Early Screw Cap Adoption
These bottles feature screw cap closures from Schloss Lieser’s early adoption period. This modern closure was introduced by the estate on select cuvées in the 2000s to preserve freshness and precision. Early screw cap examples from the estate are uncommon on the market today and of growing interest to collectors.
Critic and Community Impression
Schloss Lieser’s estate Rieslings are consistently praised for purity, balance, and slate definition. Notes around the 2007 vintage highlight ripe yet precise fruit, harmonious sweetness, and minerally drive, offering highly enjoyable drinking at maturity.
