Iittala - Tapio Wirkkala - Trinkglas (9) - Aslak - Glas

Dear Bidders, thank you for your interest in my offer. I´m offering set of 8 Aslak glasses and 1 jug in a very good condition. An authentic vintage glassware set from the Aslak series, designed by legendary Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala and produced in Finland between the 1970s and 1980s. Unlike the well-known Ultima Thule series, Aslak is no longer in production, making this a true vintage collection, now only rarely found on the market. The set features a sculptural pitcher and matching tumblers made of clear mould-blown glass with a distinctive ice-like texture inspired by Nordic nature. The organic surface, weight and tactile quality are characteristic of Wirkkala’s design language, combining functionality with sculptural expression. SOME GENERAL INFORMATIONS: Tapio Wirkkala ( 1915-1985 ) designed a significant part of his work for Iittala, creating nearly four hundred objects during the forty years he collaborated with the company. He is regarded as one of the most influential figures in Scandinavian design, and his collaboration with Iittala produced some of the most collectible glassware of the 20th century. The Aslak series is especially appreciated by collectors for its rarity and unmistakable vintage character. Tapio Wirkkala was a master of glass design. He had a deep connection with nature, and his works beautifully capture the essence of the Finnish landscape in glass. He was particularly inspired by the melting ice of Lapland. In addition to glass design, his work encompassed sculpture, graphic design, and even the design of banknotes. During his active career, Tapio Wirkkala participated in international exhibitions and served for several years as the artistic director at the University of Art and Design. He received numerous awards, including three gold medals at the Milan Triennial in 1951 and 1954. SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: * Made in Finland hand-made * Designed by Tapio Wirkkala in ´70 * Material : glass, model Aslak * Measurements: approx.: Jug 18x13 (18,5) cm; glass 9,5x7,5 cm ( water, juice, whisky size ) * Whithout decoration * Please watch all the pictures, they are also a part of description * I would like to point out that the items I am selling are several decades old and therefore show general signs of use and age, such as minor scratches, scuffs, discoloration, dust, cracks, dents, patina, chips etc. ~ Any major damage -s is / are always shown in the photos ~ * Please remember about Catawiki’s rules and made a payment maximally within 3 days after auction end The set will be properly prepared for shipping ( mainly recycled materials) and sent insured ( up to 500€ ).
