Shino ware - Takeshi Kato 健 - Tasse - Töpferware - Glasierte Landschaft Guinomi
This is a handcrafted Guinomi (sake cup) by the renowned Japanese ceramic artist Takeshi Kato (加藤健). The piece is accompanied by its original Tomobako (signed wooden box) and a detailed biography of the artist, making it a collectible item of artistic and historical value.
Crafted in a natural, organic form, this Guinomi features a beautiful white glaze with intentional crackles (kannyu) and distinctive kiln spots, characteristic of wood-fired ceramics. The glaze subtly reveals shades of blue and grey, giving the surface a delicate sense of depth. The base remains unglazed, revealing the rough texture of the clay, further emphasizing its handmade quality. The irregular, rounded shape fits comfortably in the hand, showcasing a harmony between form and function that is central to Japanese aesthetics.
In Japanese ceramics, the term Keshiki (景色) refers to the natural, scenic effects created by the glaze, firing process, and clay texture. This guinomi beautifully embodies the concept of Keshiki, with flowing glazes and natural textures that evoke a landscape-like appearance.
The box lid is hand-signed by the artist with the inscription "ぐい呑" (Guinomi) and his signature, along with a red seal. A biographical sheet is also included, outlining Kato's ceramic journey and exhibition history.
Since it is an old item, there are small scratches and stains, but it is in good condition.Pottery products may have traces of glaze that occur during the brewing process, but this is normal.
We strive to faithfully reproduce the color of the product in the photos, but the color may appear different from the actual product due to lighting conditions, differences in display, and shooting conditions.
