Carved Spazierstock - .925 Silber - 1908 - Schwarzwaldstil

Edwardian Silver-Mounted Carved Walking Stick, Birmingham 1908 – Black Forest Style An attractive Edwardian gentleman’s walking stick, carved from a single piece of hardwood, with the handle and shaft formed integrally and modelled in the Black Forest manner to imitate a natural branch with deeply cut, bark-like fluting. The carving is well executed and continues consistently along the full length of the stick, creating a strong sculptural effect and providing a comfortable, secure grip. The crook handle is fitted with a smooth sterling silver terminal cap, neatly shaped and well proportioned to the curve of the handle. A silver collar is mounted at the junction of the handle and shaft and is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1908. Both silver mounts display light surface wear and soft patination consistent with age. A small split is present to the silver terminal cap, typical of age-related stress in hollow silver fittings, and does not affect the stability of the handle or overall integrity of the stick. The shaft tapers gently towards the base and retains its original ferrule. The walking stick measures approximately 93 cm in length and remains straight, solid and well balanced, suitable both for display and careful use. Overall condition is very good for its age, with no structural repairs or cracks to the wood, aside from minor surface wear and the small split to the silver cap as noted. A fine and authentic example of an Edwardian silver-mounted walking stick in the Black Forest carving tradition, combining decorative craftsmanship with practical function. Highly suitable for collectors of antique canes, Black Forest carving, or Edwardian gentleman’s accessories.
