Description The Luxman SQ-38 Signature, released in Japan in 1995, is a hi-fi integrated tube amplifier that was released to commemorate Luxman's 70th anniversary. Both the Luxman brand and their line of tube amplifiers are known for their exceptional performance, especially in the midrange, and are generally considered “world class” by critics. It features a Williamson circuit in the power amplifier section. The inverted signal is generated by PK division. The EL34 output tube is operated in push-pull and the total NFB is minimized. The first stage uses 12AU7 tubes and the driver stage uses 12BH7 tubes. It has a rated output of 30W + 30W (6Ω). The SQ-38 Signature has a certain build quality that you can immediately notice, as expected from high-end Japanese audio equipment. It has the right warmth, good bass control, provides an excellent soundstage, and is a beauty to look at—especially at night when the lights are low. It's also a very reliable amplifier—I've had mine for over 2 years now without a single problem. It also features Lux's OY transformers. These transformers have made Luxman what it is today. What's more, it comes with super-deluxe bare wire speaker terminals for the best sound from your speaker cables. Unfortunately, it is a limited edition amplifier, and my Japanese audiophile friends tell me that it is no longer available in Japan (except as a website photo) and that the second-hand market value for this amplifier in Japan is now much higher than it was when it was new! Appreciation - wow! Although the initial price in Japan was around US$3,800, the UK price of £3,500 seems to have taken the second valuation into account.
