By isolating details, the materiality, movement, and depth of the paint surface are transformed into autonomous images. Each image is printed on museumquality Hahnemuehle Fine Art Paper, shifting the painted detail into a photographic format. "In my Aerial Views Photography Projects, the scenarios seen from above—with their structures, rhythms, and chromatic tensions often evoked the language of abstract painting. This association informed the conception of a discrete, project-based exploration: Instead of merely revealing what already exists, I began to create own pictorial worlds through paint." Since 2010, Bernhard Lang has captured the earth's surface in his photo series "Aerial Views". To take these pictures from the heavens, Lang takes off in helicopters and small aircrafts. The Aerial Views project received numerous awards, such as 1st place at Sony World Photography 2015, 1st place International Photography Awards (ipa) 2015 and was nominated for Prix Pictet 2016 __________________________________________________________________________________________ THE ARTIST: Lang is best known for his award-winning aerial photography project Aerial Views, which earned numerous recognitions, including First Place at the Sony World Photography Awards in 2015.
