Aerodynamic dumbbell Australite. Found in Charlotte Waters / Northern Territory / Australia . Australites are the most widely flown tektites in the Australasian strewn field. Therefore, australites are relatively small compared to other tektites in the strewn field; however, they are often aerodynamically shaped. The surface structure is rather fine. Tektites are natural glass, generated by a huge meteorite impact. By hitting the ground the kinetic energy from the meteorite was set free in a huge explosion, that vaporised the meteorite and the surrounding earth surface. Jets of rock steam were ejected from the new born crater.
