The Bookworm 11 Shelf has been created by Ron Arad for the brand Kartell. The Israeli architect and industrial designer is a design rebel who is constantly experimenting with production methods and materials. This and his radical concepts have led him to create novel, unexampled pieces that always steal the show. The Bookworm 11 Shelf is one such piece. This flexible bookshelf is a complete departure from the conventional upright book shelf. It is made of flame retardant mass-dyed thermoplastic technopolymer that is flexible enough for it to be wound around to form a sinuous bookshelf. It has 11 bookends along its rounded length that hold books in place. This flexible shelf can be re-arranged into different shapes. The Shelf was an exhibition piece and is unused - bought it at "Deutsche Werkstätten Lebensräume" - they unpacked it but it was never on a wall. I never had the space to hang it either. So brand new - even though one of the shelf elements has scratches from the transport (see detail photo) - they won't show once mounted on the wall. It is curled up because the material is under tension and won't stretch out for images -> that's why the shaped wall mounting is possible. The exact shipping price might have to be checked - if Hermes transports it your way or an alternative shipping method has to be explored.
