Absolute Auktion – Japanischer Netsuke „Schädel“ von Shojisai | Handgeschnitztes Hirschhorn - Hirschgeweih - 正司斎 Shojisai - Japan - Reiwa-Zeit (2019-heute)

A striking and finely executed Japanese netsuke carved in the form of a skull, created by the artisan Shojisai, a contemporary craftsman based in Kokura. Carved from deer horn, this miniature sculpture demonstrates exceptional control of form and texture. The hollowed eye sockets, subtle asymmetry, and natural coloration of the material give the piece a strong presence despite its small size. Skull motifs in Japanese art often symbolize impermanence (mujo) and reflection on life, making this netsuke both visually powerful and conceptually meaningful. The netsuke is presented on a wooden stand, allowing it to be displayed as a sculptural object. The underside bears the artist’s signature, confirming authorship. A rare opportunity to acquire a signed, hand-carved netsuke by a known living artisan, suitable for collectors of netsuke, contemporary Japanese craftsmanship, or miniature sculpture. Details Object: Netsuke Motif: Skull Artist: Shojisai Origin: Kokura, Fukuoka, Japan Material: Deer horn Technique: Hand carving Stand: Wooden base Netsuke size: 4 cm × 3 cm × 3 cm Stand size: 6.5 cm × 6.5 cm Signature: Present (on the netsuke) Condition Excellent condition. No cracks or repairs observed. There is natural texture and color variation inherent to deer horn, consistent with hand-carved work. The wooden stand shows minor handling marks only. Please review all images carefully, as they form part of the description. Shipping Carefully packed and shipped from Japan with tracking and insurance. We use Japan post as a usual shipping method. Dear French buyers If you not receive the items within 2 weeks , please check the category "Recommended Letter (lettre recommandée) "with the tracking number our provided on the French Postal office online ("LaPoste.fr").
