Item Description An exceptional Japanese Koro incense burner crafted in Hakudō (white copper / nickel silver) by master metal artist 佐野宏采 Sano Kōsai. Hakudō is a traditional alloy composed primarily of copper and nickel, valued for its strength, refined silver-like appearance, and high resistance to corrosion. The entire body is densely adorned with high-relief carvings of numerous flying cranes, symbolizing longevity, prosperity, and auspicious fortune in Japanese culture. The domed lid features an elegant openwork hexagonal pattern that allows incense smoke to diffuse gently, while a finely sculpted turtle sits atop the lid, completing the auspicious Tsuru–Kame (crane and turtle) motif. This work demonstrates outstanding technical mastery in traditional Japanese metal carving, with remarkable depth, movement, and precision throughout. The underside bears the artist’s seal 「宏采」, confirming authenticity.
