Elegant and sculptural art glass vase produced by Līvānu stikls (Livani glass factory), the historic glass factory in Līvāni, Latvia. The vase features a tall, slender form with a softly undulating rim in deep blue glass, rising from a solid clear glass base. The contrast between the transparent base and the coloured upper section is characteristic of decorative glass produced in Latvia during the late Soviet period. The Līvāni glass factory was one of the most important glass producers in Latvia and a well-known name throughout the Soviet Union. From the 1960s to the 1980s, Līvānu stikls was especially popular for its decorative vases and art glass objects, which were widely used in Latvian homes and exported across the USSR. Pieces from this period are today appreciated for their refined forms, colour quality, and representative value of Baltic glass design.
