Presented for auction by Second Vintage This Rado Daymaster 999 is a standout example of mid-century Swiss design, combining a substantial case presence with a distinctively textured dial. Featuring the desirable day-date complication and the iconic rotating anchor logo, this timepiece perfectly captures the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the 1970s while offering robust build quality. Brand: Rado Model: Daymaster 999 Reference Number: 11778 Movement: Automatic, 25 Jewels Dial: Silver Vertical Brushed Case Size: 37 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: c. 1970s Condition: Good vintage condition. The dial is excellently preserved, while the case shows honest signs of wear and handling marks. Dial and Hands The dial is the highlight of this piece, featuring a striking vertical brushed silver finish that interacts beautifully with the light. It is adorned with raised, faceted silver block hour markers and the signature Rado rotating anchor logo against a purple backdrop at the 12 o'clock position. A framed day and date window is positioned at 3 o'clock, with the day displayed in full. The silver baton hands are fitted with dark center inlays for sharp contrast and legibility. The dial surface is exceptionally well-preserved and clean. Case and Crystal Crafted from stainless steel, the round case measures a generous 37 mm in diameter, which is a desirable size for vintage enthusiasts. The case retains its original shape but shows visible surface scratches and signs of wear consistent with age. The screw-down caseback features the famous Rado Seahorse medallion and "Water-Sealed" engraving, though it bears evident tool marks and scratches from past opening attempts. The signed crown featuring the Rado anchor is present. The crystal is clear and presents well. Movement Powering the watch is a signed Rado Swiss automatic movement with 25 jewels and a gold-plated rotor. The mechanism is clean and offers reliable vintage performance. Timegrapher testing shows the watch is running between +24 and +30 seconds per day, which indicates a healthy movement. Strap The watch is fitted with a new black leather strap featuring white contrast stitching and a stainless steel pin buckle. The strap complements the dial's monochrome aesthetic and is ready for immediate wear. Condition This timepiece is in good vintage condition. While the case and caseback show clear evidence of use and handling marks, the dial remains in stunning condition, providing a sharp and attractive appearance on the wrist. Dimensions The case measures 37 mm in diameter excluding the crown. Remarks The Daymaster 999 is a collectible model that combines Rado's engineering focus with the bold styling of the 1970s. The combination of the vertically brushed dial texture and the functional day-date display makes this a versatile daily wearer that stands out from typical silver-dial dress watches of the era. History Rado, founded in 1917 as Schlup & Co., began marketing watches under the Rado brand in the 1950s. The company quickly gained a reputation for innovation in materials and water-resistant designs, epitomized by their "Water-Sealed" series. The Daymaster line represents the brand's successful expansion into practical calendar watches during the golden age of mechanical watchmaking. Payment and Shipping Payment must be completed within 1-3 days after purchase. The watch will be securely packaged and shipped from The Netherlands with tracking and insurance for your peace of mind. Please review the pictures carefully before bidding. We strive to showcase the watch from multiple angles for an accurate representation.
