RADO DiaStar Chronometer Automatic Cal. 2797 Vintage 1970s Swiss Made Overview This is a vintage RADO DiaStar Chronometer automatic wristwatch from the 1970s. The DiaStar line is known for its distinctive case construction and durability, and this example is equipped with a chronometer-certified automatic movement. Chronometer certification was only granted to carefully adjusted movements, making this a higher-grade and less commonly seen RADO model from the era. The watch represents a solid and practical example of RADO’s technical approach during this period. Design, Case and Dial The watch features the characteristic DiaStar hard metal case with a silver-tone finish and a faceted crystal. The dial is fitted with applied hour markers, central hands, and a date window at the 3 o’clock position. A chip is present on the case at the 6 o’clock position, as shown in the photographs. The faceted crystal is in clean condition with no major damage. Movement and Function Automatic movement Chronometer officially certified Caliber: 2797 (movement number visible) The movement appears clean on visual inspection. The watch has been observed to keep stable time with no noticeable deviation over a 24-hour period in normal use. The date display changes normally through crown operation. Anchor Logo Operation (Automatic Indicator) Second photo The rotating anchor logo on the dial is a characteristic feature of RADO automatic watches. When the watch is gently moved or tilted, the anchor logo rotates, which is a normal design feature and indicates the presence of an automatic winding mechanism. This anchor logo also traditionally serves as a visual indicator related to the condition of the movement’s lubrication. If the logo does not rotate or shows very limited movement, maintenance may be required. In this watch, the anchor logo is observed to rotate when the watch is moved, as shown in the photographs. Please note that this is a vintage timepiece, and while the anchor logo is functioning, long-term performance or future maintenance requirements cannot be guaranteed. Condition The watch is in honest vintage condition. There are signs of use consistent with age, including the chip on the case at the 6 o’clock position. The dial and hands show natural aging. A new leather strap has been fitted for comfortable daily wear. Size and Wearability Case diameter: approx. 36.0 mm (excluding crown) Lug width: 18 mm Wrist size: fits up to approx. 18 cm Accessories and Notes Original RADO presentation box included (marked “Tokyo” on the base) No warranty booklet or papers This is a vintage watch; water resistance is not guaranteed Shipping Policy The watch will be shipped from Japan using a fully insured and trackable international shipping service (Japan Post / EMS or equivalent).
